The “DB Update” tab explained
Presentation of the interface
Section titled “Presentation of the interface”
12345- Selection of the type of data (text and media) you want to download.
- Launching the update.
The action of this button is based on the choice made in the drop-down menu to its right:- Update all games.
- Update the currently selected games in the 'DB EDIT' tab.
- Two data servers are available.
Both require a username and password. - The creation/update of the database is done in two steps:
- First, it is the analysis of the roms files present on the hard disk that is done.
This analysis is only to be done once...and each time the content of the 'roms' folder is modified.
Between each analysis, you have an option to delete from the database the games that are no longer detected as present.- Then, it is the import of image and text data that is performed.
This import can be done as many times as necessary. Only the data that is not present will be retrieved, unless you check the option box that allows you to reload the existing data (text and media) and thus replace the previous ones. - Selection of regional preference, both for images and synopsis.
For the synopsis, mGalaxy will download it preferably in the primary language, otherwise - and if it has been set - in the secondary language.
For the images, mGalaxy will download them preferably in the primary region, otherwise secondary, as a last resort in the first available region.
What is a database and why use one?
Section titled “What is a database and why use one?”By default, mGalaxy lists files by the way they are named, but this information alone is often not enough:
- the filename itself may be abbreviated or incomplete and therefore not represent the real name of the game.
- you would like to have additional information, such as a synopsis, the genre of the game, the number of players allowed, the release date.
All this information can be collected automatically by mGalaxy_Runway when creating a database. Note also that in this process, image and video files can also be collected!
