Ok so I have just upgraded to mame 0.162 with mameuifx 0.162 and cant seem to get long names anymore. I either manage to get short names displayed or no names at all.
Not sure if this is a change to 0.162 only or has been previous versions but the writing in bold red?

Have you tried the emumovies downloader. Not sure about what the quality is but they work fine. There are some limitations on downloads unless you are a paid member but it will download them for mame anyway not sure about other platforms

You should indeed create a database to associate the rom name to a proper display name (this is the principle)...but you'll don't have to, there's already one for you in the database repository:
