MAME Cabs

I'm really interested to know if anyone has a MAME cab here (I'm sure there are lots) - and how they came about owning one? Was it a DIY project? A friendly donation? Or did you get one of those kit-form ones and filled it yourself with computer goodness? If it was a DIY job - and your first go - how easy was it? What problems did you have? Pictures would be nice too!!

I would love to build one - although funds and skill don't allow it at the moment. When everything's in place (including asking my father-in-law for a hand - he's the "crafty" one in the family BTW) then I would like to take people's advice on here if possible to help craft the greatest cab known to man.  :D

Here are some impressions from my works,
take a special look at the power supply picture, i have INCLUDE the TFT power cable into the PC power supply, so i have only 1 switch to turn on the machine ( TFT should be with a function auto power on = some have, some not )

The last Pic, cable connects, this was a nightmare ...  :o

Lot of work, but the final result is really impressive, there are leds too with light effect (I see your buttons transparents) ?

A great table-top cab and it must have been a really fun project.

I would die for a full-sized one, even though my wife would probably have a few things to say about that!!! The kids would love it though - I have a six year old daughter that adores Pacman! I would probably never be able to play it during the evening because she would constantly be on it  :D

No LED, the buttons only transparents, i think looks better as a normal.colored.

First, i wanted to buy LED buttons, but then i have seen the extra work for it - no  ;)
Maybe it is not the big-work ... but my question is: when is the LED broken, i must do open again all the chaos of parts ... better no  ;D

Last 2 years, i had another "full size", but this was big, and NOT 100% selfmade, so my dream was one selfmade, i sold this big machine (pics bottom), and start my work with the new one at the end of 2012.
In the old, there was an old pc inside, and no pinball buttons, i have added two sidebuttons, and replaced a "stoneage-keyboard-hack" with an ipac 32-encoder.
then replaced big TV screen for TFT, glass for plexi-glass, build in more speakers, other PC, a Fan (at last it was a heating!), ...
the better thing at the old, there was a LED lamp behind the marquee at top, was very nice in dark room !

My doughter is 5, and she play "wonderboy" level 1 near perfect  ;)
Pacman is to hard for she ... everytime she eat ghosts, without powerpill  ;)

Terrible, I don't have enought surface in my apartment to make one, perhaps in the future.

Emulator are for that too, for news generations can know the pleasure to play at mario, sonic, pacman, or bomberman between 2 call of duty.

I m afraid to see that some wonderfull game with 10 years old are totally unknow, even they have more gameplay than the last ps3 game.

Monkey island 1 / 2
flashback
Earthstorm
Duck tales (soon a new version ^^)
Shadow of the beast.

Or too hardcore ^^ like kid cameleon or gouls and ghost. New generation make me laught when she use the term "hardgamer" with the XBox/ps3 game.

ok: i made my machine at a friend, he have a big working room.
atm at home, is was not possible too.

yes you are right, and its bad: our new generation dont know, what is a real game !
i remember to my first "game and watch", and today: kids would not see that.

and funy: all know mario, and many dont know, that he is the jumpman at donkey kong !

btw. i have many G&W, all MultiScreen, and the "Mario Juggler" too, if anybody know this.

It is funny when people play new games and say they're "hard" - I agree lol. If you could complete a game on your system when we were younger, we would be the talk of the playground at school! Nowadays, of course, games are created to be completed. Everything is stacked in the player's favour. It's the only reason modern games have "achievements" - to balance out the easy game play.

Game & Watch were amazing back in the day. They're looked on with curiosity nowadays - why people would bother to play them. But the idea of having a game you could take with you was ground-breaking stuff. Like having your own arcade machine in your pocket! Taken for granted now with DS and smartphones.

Yeap that sounds familiar! She's close to completing level 1 - I think it's just the controls that are difficult for her, but she's getting better with (lots of) practice  :)

I'll fire up WonderBoy for her too and see if she likes it!

The GAME AND WATCH Emu looks good, but there is from "Russia Dev", so i dont believe, that is the .exe installer clean and ok  ;)

Maybe next time i will give it a try, that would be great in Arcade Cab / mGalaxy too !

Look here, my little Treasure  :D
