Newbie issues

Hi there! I'm working on getting mGalaxy all installed and working nicely. So far it's pretty awesome and I can't wait to get the kinks worked out!

I've watched the tutorial video, and can't get the Player 1 Start/anything else combination to work. As soon as I press player 1 start the game my cursor is on is launched and it gives me no time to push another button or direction on the joystick. Is this because I'm setting it up using my keyboard rather than an arcade stick setup? Do I have to remap my controls somewhere?

Secondly, is there a way to add flags to certain games so they register in a filter list? Specifically, I have mGalaxy set to filter out any 'adult' games, but there's still a bunch of Japanese stuff in the list that, just judging from the screen shot alone, should probably count as 'adult.' :) I don't want to have people over and have to scroll past a bunch of porn to find Pac Man. Is there a way I can tag these games as 'adult' as I'm going through the list in mGalaxy?

Thanks!

Hi notbillcosby,

First of all, welcome to our community..and thanks for giving a try to mGalaxy!
As soon as I press player 1 start the game.... Is this because I'm setting it up using my keyboard rather than an arcade stick setup?
Yes, clearly! The use of Player 1 in combination with another key is "reserved" to arcade joystick users (using a keyboard encoder like this one: http://www.ultimarc.com/ipac1.html

Look at this table:
Image
The first column is the key that is received by the computer (and that YOU should press when using a keyboard).
The second column is the action driven by that keypress
The third column is the joystick & button actions used by joystick owner (and then the keyboard encoder transform those actions to...keypress, as you would do with your keyboard)

Is is more clear to you like this?
Keep in mind too that using mGalaxy Runway (which is joined to mGalaxy) you can change the default keys used by mGalaxy, if you want to!

Is there a way I can tag these games as 'adult' as I'm going through the list in mGalaxy?
mGalaxy uses a file called "Catver.ini" to judge if a game belongs to a category or not.
What you could do is simply open that file, edit the line corresponding to the game and add "Mature" after the slash.
Example:  one of the first lines in "Catver.ini" is that one:
005=Maze / Shooter Small
change it to:
005=Maze / Shooter Small Mature
and the game named "005" will be hidden (if you've made the choice to hide mature games in mGalaxy option)

Voila! ;-)
I hope that I've clearly and simply answered your questions!!

Duh! I had even seen that keyboard chart on your page and forgot about it. Whops. Thanks!

I'll check out catver.ini. I guess maybe this is my official feature request- being able to pull up a menu from within mGalaxy that would have attributes for the game selected and would allow you to add or remove tags to/from it. I love having the ability to filter out certain stuff, it'd be extra great if I could change what games were under what filters from my arcade cabinet rather than having to pull out a mouse and keyboard to edit a configuration file!

Hello,

maybe I'm blind,

but I do not find catver.ini anywhere. Is there need to create it first ?
Some BIOS ROMs are still in the list and I want to filter them out (filter already set).

Doc,

"catver.ini" has to be downloaded from here http://www.progettoemma.net/?catlist and placed in the folder where mGalaxy resides.
Attention: you'll have to find a "catver.ini" file that match your actual mame version (i.e. : catver.ini v0.146 for mame v0.146)
